Intro to the Runes with Sophia WyrdWeaver

This intro class will give students a solid historical basis for where the runes come from, how they can be learned, and used. The runes are a cultural device with different applications. This class precedes of my other rune classes on offer:

–Advanced Elder Futhark, which goes over each rune individually at length through a variety of lenses, including how they can be interpreted in a modern context for divination purposes.

–Rune Magic, which gives a deeper understanding of Norse magic and Rune magic from a historical perspective that you can apply to your modern practice.

Schedule:

This class will be split up into four sessions starting on June 2nd and will be every consecutive Monday through June 23rd starting at 6pm PST. Each class will be around 45 minutes in length.

Duration: 45 minutes per session

  2. Session 2: All runes are made from Fire & Ice
    1. Recap of session 1

    5. Lore that informs the runes
    6. Modern sources
    7. Weekly exercises to choose from:
      1. Daily rune pulls
      2. Ginunngagap meditation in the student resource folder
  3. Session 3: Divination, magic & fate
    1. Recap of session 2
    2. Check in: weekly exercise discussion
    3. Intertwined concepts: divination, magic, fate and how it relates to the runes
    4. Types of divination and/or magic in Norse paganism and their relationship to fate
    5. Historical accounts of rune divination
    6. Historical accounts of rune magic
    7. Brief overview of magic
    8. Brief overview of the nature of fate & “soul”
    9. Weekly exercises:
      1. Two rune pulls and experimenting with combo meanings
      2. Write a sentence in runes related to your practice
  4. Session 4: The Path of Odin
    1. Recap of session 3
    2. Check in: weekly exercise discussion
    3. Suggestions for entering intermediate rune practice
    4. Odin in the lore with runes & seidr
    5. Odin’s warning labels
    6. Example rune divination
    7. Class conclusion

Runes are not just for divination and magic… runes are a way of life.
